So true, these modern ships are ugly as hell ... and poorly build, I've never heard of a capsized old ship but since the 70's we hear this all? the time with this stupid new ships...

Interesting video. But what they don't tell you is? that three slipways were demolished to make way for the two slipways that the OLYMPIC and TITANIC were built on. Also at 17:06 into the video, the ship under construction is the QUEEN MARY at the John Brown shipyard in Clydebank, Scotland c.1934.

David170390.... Great point!! Olympic was launched in 1910 built before the Titanic and the two on original White Star advertisements were together as "Olympic Class". The Olympic was as prestigious as the Titanic,? and had equal luxury fittings, I note almost 95% of the time the pics. of the "Titanic" are really of the Olympic. I love hearing about the Titanic and it is famous beyond the others however, hearing about the Olympic and Britannic I like even more. They are too often forgotten.

I want that? ship rebuilt. Titanic is so flashy more flashy than any of these luxury cruise ships these days. Its better than Queen Mary II I say.

why don't they rebuild it? obviously with better inner hull design but im sure if they did it would make so much money, why has no one tried to have it rebuilt? someone like James Cameron or Richard Branson, is it the cost, insurance purposes or bad taste fears of bad omen? or what?

This documentary seems to? be ignoring the fact that Olympic was built and launched a year before Titanic. Instead they're presenting like Titanic was the first.

Imagine how many people would have to be involved in the so-called 'switch' and would have to be kept quiet. The White Star Line would never? deliberately sink a ship, it would've been disastrous for the company's reputation for building safe ships and therefore its finances. Also the Titanic and Olympic were insured for considerably less than their build costs, so it would result in a huge loss. Finally Titanic's hull number was 400, the same one which was found on the wreck.

Sadly, the Olympic was viewed as an old worn out, outdated liner in 1935, had she been saved and preserved she would be priceless today, but the Titanic sinking was long forgotten? by White Star on purpose and later Cunard.

I'm not a know-it-all, I just hate how these shows misrepresent the size of ships, calling them? 100,000 ton monsters and so on.This misunderstanding then leads to stupid arguments about how much bigger one ship is compared to another. Titanic was a great ship in her day, but her design and construction was not revolutionary, in fact she was obsolete compared to the advanced Naval ships being built at the same time.

The Titanic weighed 17k tons when it was launched. It weighed more after being fitted out, but this is not it's displacement. It was registered for 40k tons. That means if the hull were filled with salt water at 2120 lbs per 100 cubic feet it to the weather deck, would hold 40k tons.? This measuring system was used only by merchant ships and is very inaccurate for stability purposes, because it makes the ship seem more capable. This fact should always be noted when describing the size of ships.

just for the record, Olympic was scrapped in either '36 or '39? :) And her interiors sold at auction.

Olympic? and Titanic were the same colour anyway.
