Since iMovie can convert h.264 into apple intermediate codec, is there any reason why someone? would use MPEG streamclip if they already have iMovie?

Is this an older verson of MPEG Streamclip, or am I doing something wrong? All the videos I've seen on this topic that use MPEG Streamclip have a menu with tons of options for the output format (like the XDCAM and Apple ProRes), but I only have about 15 to 20, none of which are the XDCAM? or Apple ProRes options.

I have? the same problem.. I don't have any xdcam profiles... so frustrated. Did you figure it out?

i am also trying your technique of BATCH for my Mark 5D footage.. I don't think I have a new version of FCP. Maybe version 5? The Mark 5D isn't mine, just using the footage. I don't have? any of the xdcodecs you have :( I also cant match the sequences in FCP... I just DON"T WANT TO RENDERRRRR everything... ugh.. Help!! What settings will be compatible and still give me a great vid quality. Also, what do I export settings for FCP after its all done? H.264? Sorenson? Thank you!

Is the hard drive connected with Firewire or USB 2.0? Although USB 2.0 is technically faster overall (480Mb/s) than Firewire 400 (400Mb/s). Firewire? is better at keeping a sustained, consistent bitrate whereas USB is more about peaks. USB goes fast/slow/fast/slow/fast slow. eg. 20MB/s, 10MB/sec, 20MB/sec, 10MB/s. Firewire is just faaaaaaaaast. 20/20/20/20/20 Which is better for video. I also always use the built-in OSX app "System Monitor" to watch my speeds and find CPU hogs

If you still have to render then your Final Cut settings don't match your videos. Don't forget the "Easy Setup" step to ensure your settings in FCP are proper. eg. If your video is? 1920x1080, Apple Intermediat Codec, 23.98fps then your FCP "Easy Setup" settings must be the same. -Also remember you have to go #1. Easy Setup then #2. Create a new project. If you do Easy Setup after a project has been created then the settings won't change and they will be wrong. Google it. Cheers.

Search around YouTube for videos showing how to slow down 60i or 60p footage. eg "Final Cut Slow" -Basically just import the 60p shots as-is without converting first. (because you'll have to render the footage anyways to slow it down) -In final cut pro just right-click on the clip and select speed and change it to 40% (60 x 0.40 =24) -Search for "slow motion final cut express" for other tips if you use FCE. -As a tip. You want to shoot at 1/120? shutter speed when doing slow motion

what if I was shooting 1280x720 at 60fps? do I just pick apple pro? res at 60fps rather than 30 fps. I know it seems like stupid question but I was just making sure that it doesn't ruin the quality in anyway because I have a couple shots where I want to shoot it in slow mo

Thanks bro...i'm new to final cut? express...and i've been reading so much stuff online that didn't really help much. I'm shooting with my 5DmkII, and i tried editting with my friend's premiere but didn't work out...the closes thing i've gotten it done was with iMovie which is good...but even then i wasn't able to edit or do color correction much without losing quality. Thank you so much for doing this tutorial. I got a sweet little HD camera over christmas and was bummed when rendering a file took up so much space. I did a bit of research that got me to your tutorial and now everything works. Thank you for taking the time out to post this tutorial. Actually there is a ProRes file structure where the files aren't as big, called LT, and it keeps the same quality. Great great tutorial by? the way!
